Lamborghini has apparently decided not to hold back anymore. After the dazzling 770-horsepower closed-roof Centenario coupe unveiling during March’s Geneva Auto Show, we figured we’d seen it all. They had an ace up their sleeve, though, with the promise of an open top roadster being in the pipeline – and it’s a game changer of an automobile.
At the Monterey Car Week, Lamborghini blew our collective minds with the official unveiling of the Centenario open-top roadster, a masterpiece by any standards. Only 20 units of the convertible are scheduled for production, as happened with the coupe version, but in a similar fashion, they all have buyers in line with $2.27 million in hand tough luck if you had hoped to grab one yourself.
The roadster’s all-carbon-fiber construction, resulting in a lightweight 3,461lb, coupled with a monster V12 engine have the Centenario clocking a lightning 62mph in 2.9-second acceleration. Yikes!
If you’re at all familiar with the brand, you’ll know that they do not compromise on luxury, performance notwithstanding. Plush leather seating, A 10.1-inch touch screen interactive display compatible with Apple CarPlay in addition to immaculate customizable panel finishing make for an overall out of this world experience, topless or not.
The name Centenario is a tribute to Ferruccio Lamborghini’s 100th birthday, and a fitting one it is for the spiritual forefather of such a sublime masterwork.
